Misty Jeans Sewalong Schedule

Hello, Friends!  Sorry this wasn't up first thing this morning.  I have asked an associate of mine to help make the button for this Sewalong, and I have been waiting and waiting to get it.  So, I made the executive decision to go ahead and post the Misty Jeans Sewalong schedule without the button, and as soon as I get the button or go ahead and make a less cute one myself, I will post that for you all (I will make it this evening if I still haven't received anything).

Here is what our schedule looks like:

October 5-  Cutting out the Pattern
October 7-  Sewing the Yoke
October 9-  Sewing the Back Pockets
October 12-  Adding the Coin Pocket
October 14-  Facing the Pockets and Joining the Pocket Edges
October 16-  Sewing the Inseam
October 19-  Sewing the Crotch Seam and Mock Fly
October 21-  Sewing the Side Seams and Adjusting the Fit
October 23-  Adding the Elastic Waist, and the Finishing Touches
October 26- The Finished Product

I was going to do two separate postings for serging and straight sewing, but have decided to just include both versions in each step.  As we work along on this Sewalong, please feel free to post any questions here and I will do my best to help.  You can also contact me on Instagram.  If you are sewing along and want to post your progress, you can mark your photos with #mistyjeanssewalong #pandorasews or #stylearcmistyjeans.

Now, let's get ready to sew some jeans!

  1. Yay! I'm so happy to see this post go up! And I'm also relieved to see that you've staggered the sewalong posts so that we'll have days here and there to catch up if we can't sew a particular day or if we fall behind. Thank you for the realistic pacing. ;)

    1. I thought it might be nice to spread it out, but didn't want to go too slow, either. I remember doing a sewalong one time, where no schedule was listed. Two months later we were still waiting for the final steps and reveal! I am glad the pace is to your liking, and I hope it is helpful to others as well.

  2. This is great. I will be following this closely (although I won't be sewing along). Xx

    1. Thanks, MoR! I hope that there is something I offer here that will have entertainment value for the non-sewalong readers out there.

  3. sounds great! I just taped my pattern last night, so I may jump ahead, but I'm to know the sewalong will be there if I get stuck. I'm already a little confused about the pockets/facing. If they are fake pockets, why is there a facing? Hopefully I'll sort it out when I get to that step.

    1. You are welcome to jump ahead! I will discuss the pocket facings when I get to that step, so if you are still having confusion tune in to see if I answer your questions.

  4. I noticed the pattern said use a fabric with 3% lycra. Anyone what that translates to for percentage of stretch?

    1. Kathy, it will vary depending on the fabric. Figure 10 percent.

  5. I'm still hoping I can participate. We moved and still trying to get settled.

    1. Good Luck getting settled in, Sabrina. If you don't get to play along now, you can always come back and revisit the sewalong in the future.

  7. I purchased the pattern yesterday, and today I'm off to get fabric and notions!

  8. The pattern calls for 1 1/3" or 3 cm wide elastic, which I don't see on my usual sources. Do you have a source?

    1. I am using 1 inch elastic. You could use 1 1/2 inch as well. If you can find 1 1/4 inch that would be closer to 3 cm than 1 1/3 inch.

  9. I went fabric shopping yesterday and found some fun black and white graphic print fabric. Unfortunately they didn't have any waistband elastic in a black or white. Can anyone give me a source?

    1. I ended up using 1 inch knit elastic. It is available in many colors, and is readily available online or in fabric shops. Got mine at JoAnn.
