Where Has All the Sewjo Gone?

Friends, I think I have lost my sewjo.  Normally, January is a very productive month for me, so I don't really think I can blame this on Januaritis.  If anything cabin fever generally lends itself to more time in the creative space, thus more items coming out of the creative space.

I know one problem is that I am anxiously awaiting a Style Arc pattern and I can't get it out of my mind.  Let's call this sewer's block!  It's that space where your brain becomes obsessed with making a certain item, but you don't have all the doo dads to make that item.  You can't seem to change your energy and focus until you are able to work on that project.  I don't even want to tell you how many times I have gone down to the sewing room matched patterns to fabrics and just...couldn't...cut...them...out.  I feel like waiting on this pattern has paralyzed me.

T wrote a great post over at the Curvy Sewing Collective on getting your sewjo back.  I have tried quite a few of the things that she listed in the post, but to no avail.  Every time I walk down to the sewing room, I keep singing in my head, "I'm bringing sewjo back" to the tune of I'm Bringing Sexy Back.  Unfortunately, all the positivity isn't really working.

Problem is...I need to sew.  I have a deadline of sorts.  Damn deadline!  So friends, I think I am going to get off of the computer, turn on a little JT, heat up a mug of chai tea, and head down to the sewing room.  One.  More.  Time.

  1. I found your sewjo. I have it. I hadn't sewn for 6 months and now I am whipping them out. Must be your sewjo.

I recharged mine in 2 ways. Got together with sewing buddies for a sewing day and also re-organising my fabric stash which meant I had to touch every piece - some I had even forgotten I had.

Good luck finding it. I just hope mine doesn't go when you find yours!

  2. Alas! It is probably that deadline that it's hiding under! It took me AGES to find mine again and it's still only back at half full. Keep doing the little bits and pieces and eventually it will find you again. Hugs T x

    1. Thanks T for the encouragement. I did manage to cut out two shirts and partially sew one yesterday...but I hate it! Doh...that is not good for the sewjo either.

  4. It is strange how many of us have been feeling this way??? Must be the stress that comes with the Festive Season and being broke in January...I buy Indie PDF patterns because I cannot justify paying the shipping fee to South Africa, and as soon as I start cutting and assembling the pattern, I my enthusiasm for the garment takes a large dip. Then its a matter of pushing through. Sometimes I am more successfull than other times...

    1. PDF patterns take the wind out of my sails sometimes, too. I have to admit that cutting patterns at all is my LEAST favorite part of sewing.

I love the emerald green and plum colors that are in your sewing palette for Winter! But then I have a bit of a thing for all shades of purple!!!

    1. Thanks, Tanya. I am sure that it will. Seeing that purple Muse Jenna Cardi you made got my creative juices going a little.

    1. Andie, tell me about it! It's like the deadline is just looming there blocking all creative energy that I have.

On another note, you did an excellent job embroidering Hello Kitty on your hoodie! You are a machine woman, just pumping out garments like crazy!!! Love it!
